Police Track Down Home Invaders After Wrong-Way NJ Pursuit In Stolen BMW

A 22-year-old man is in custody, and two others are at large, following a New Jersey home invasion and high-speed pursuit in a stolen BMW, police said.

Police were called to 6 Cambridge Road in Pompton Lakes around 2:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, after residents reported three men entered their house and then stole their 2023 BMW M8 Gran Coupe from their driveway, police said.

Surveillance footage showed the suspects inside and outside of the home.

One suspect is seen stealing a PlayStation 5 from a downstairs playroom while another entered the kitchen, police said. There, they foudn a Louis Vuitton satchel containing $700 in cash, a wallet, and keys to the stolen car.

Police in Pequnnock spotted the stolen car speeding south on Route 23. When the driver of the stolen car saw police, he cut across the highway and took off south in the northbound lanes, police said.

The pursuit was ended due to the reckless nature of the stolen vehicle’s driver, but the car was traced to multiple locations including Clark, East Orange, Irvington, and South Amboy, police said.

The on-call detectives, Capt. Anthony Rodriguez, and Detective Edlis Zaku were contacted to assist with the investigation. Zaku contacted NJSP’s Auto Theft Task Force, which led police to Irvington, NJ around 11:30 a.m., authorities said.

When police tried to stop the vehicle, three of the occupants of the vehicle fled on foot, including 22-year-old Nacosh Crawford, of West Orange. The other two remain at large.

After an interview with two detectives, Crawford was charged with burlgary, conspiracy to commit theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of theft, and more.

The incident remains under investigation.
